Over 50% of children in the UK are not active enough
According to Sport England, 53% of children in the UK are considered not active. This means over half of the UK’s child population are not exercising or active for more than 60 minutes each day. Your sponsorship can help raise money for schools to purchase new equipment and resources to make sport in schools more inclusive, accessible and exciting so that all pupils have the opportunity to exercise more, and with better quality equipment.
What are Great Athletes doing to address this?
A Great Athletes event involves a top GB athlete visiting primary schools and taking the pupils through their paces in a fun fitness circuit, followed by an inspirational assembly telling their sporting story. These are stories that no one forgets; not only do the athletes talk about competing, but they explain the challenges they have faced and deliver highly motivating messages that will remain with the children for life about being the best you can be, remaining resilient, and keeping a healthy mindset. Each athlete’s story is individual, with their way of delivering the same inspiring messages. The event is then wrapped up with a Q&A session, giving everyone the chance to connect with a real-life sporting role model and ask any questions they have.
The children take a sponsorship form home 2 weeks before the event, and ask for sponsors from friends and family for taking part in the fitness circuit alongside the athlete. With the funds raised, the lion’s share comes back to the school as a voucher to spend on new sports equipment to improve physical activity in school, helping us get a step closer to our mission: to inspire every child to lead a more active, resilient and healthy life.
What could your contribution do for your local school?
Sponsoring a Great Athletes visit is easy, and your money will go a long way to changing the lives of primary school pupils. The money raised for a Great Athletes visit will allow the school to purchase new sports equipment, and enable Great Athletes to keep running events and help support the athletes, continuing to inspire the next generation.

£100 could get a school 16 brand new footballs!
£300 could get a school 5 new gymnastics mats!

Case Study
We visited Milwards Primary School back in November 2023, and this event was proudly sponsored by local Estate Agents Fortune & Coates.
Fortune & Coates generously sponsored the athlete event and also gave the school an additional £100 donation to spend on sports equipment. They even offered an incredible £500 discount on home selling fees to parents through a discount code.
Already a well-established Estate Agency in the area, this was a success for Fortune & Coates, and went on to receive many plaudits for their generosity.

What do teachers have to say about sponsorship?
“As a school, we recognise the importance of physical education inspiring all of our pupils to excel in a happy and healthy lifestyle. The success of this event was an incredibly proud moment for the school, and we are so thankful to everyone who joined together to make it as successful as it was.”
